It is hard to believe that it has been just over two years since the infamous Capitol storm that occurred on January 6th. With most Republicans condemning it at the time it happened, most people would probably assume that just about every American would consider the event a tragedy. However, according to a recently developed survey, that may no longer be the case.
Out of a significant amount of responses, it turns out that only 29% of registered Republicans consider the event problematic. While it doesn't necessarily mean that they believe it was a good thing, it is still poignant to know. Meanwhile, 75% of registered Democrats said that January 6 was truly bad. Seeing how Democrats would presumably be united in opposing January 6, it is also somewhat surprising how there were that many that didn't find it to be severely tragic. Approximately 1 in 2 unregistered voters considered January 6 bad, which, when given the statistics of the Republicans and Democrats, is not particularly surprising.
In light of these findings, there are things we can learn from the American public opinion. One is simply that, while controversial, the Capitol Storm is not the only thing people define as a riot in America. There have been other aggressive events that would be categorized in the same group as January 6. The other takeaway from this is that people are more focused on their own situations. Rising gas prices, crime, and being able to find a job may take priority, especially in a time like this.
